All-On-4 Dental Implants

AZ Oral Surgery proudly offers the comfort and convenience of All-On-4 Dental Implants. All-On-4 implants are a revolutionary teeth replacement option to restore function and beauty to your smile using a less invasive approach. If you are missing all of your natural teeth in the upper or lower jaw, All-On-4 dental implants effectively replace the teeth using just four implants rather than multiple individual implants to support a full arch of replacement teeth.

Benefits of All-On-4 Dental Implants

All-On-4 dental implants are the only permanent solution for multiple missing teeth. Once the implants are healed, they are a permanent feature of the jawbone and should last a lifetime. The attached restorations can last decades with proper care. The many benefits of All-On-4 implants include:

  • Less surgery is needed
  • Less post-operative swelling, bleeding, and discomfort
  • Less chance of requiring bone grafting
  • More convenient than dentures
  • You brush and floss your restorations like they are natural teeth
  • No sore spots, shifting, or clicking, unlike dentures
  • Eat all the foods you love
  • Immediate function with temporary prosthetics so that you can leave our office with a great smile on the day of surgery
  • Dental implants help preserve facial structure, eliminating the sunken, aged appearance common with long-term denture wear.
  • Immediate function with a temporary prosthetic

The All-On-4 Technique

All-On-4 implants support a full arch of artificial teeth using only four implants strategically placed in the jawbone. The process typically involves the following steps:

Initial Evaluation

Dr. Shah performs a comprehensive evaluation of your oral health, including Cone Beam CT scan (a 3D scan of your jaws and teeth), and a physical exam to determine whether the All-On-4 is right for you.

Treatment Planning

Using the information from your evaluation, we create a customized treatment plan. We design the shape, size, and color of the replacement teeth using advanced 3D imaging and determine the optimal location for each of the four or sometimes more implants.

Dental Implant Placement

Dr. Shah surgically places the implants in the jawbone. The two implant screws in the front of the jaw are placed vertically, while the other two are angled toward the back of the mouth to maximize contact with the jawbone. The angled placement increases stability and reduces or eliminates the need for bone grafting. Occasionally, Dr. Shah will have to place more complex implants like a Zygoma (Cheek bone) or a Pterygoid (posterior maxilla) implants due to poor quality of missing bone structure.

Temporary Restorations

Following implant placement, the dental lab (under Dr. Shah’s guidance) will attach temporary prosthetic teeth to the implants while in our office. Patients have fully functioning teeth immediately after surgery while the implants continue to heal and fuse with the surrounding bone.

Healing Time

Dental implants are made of titanium or zirconia, bio-compatible materials that fuse with the jawbone over several months. This provides a strong foundation to support dental restorations and ensures the restorations do not shift or cause any discomfort. The fusion process (osseointegration) takes several months.

Final Restoration

Once your permanent, full arch of replacement teeth is created and the implants have osseointegrated with the jawbone, you are ready for the final restoration. The permanent arch of replacement teeth is attached to the implants, providing full function, complete comfort, and a gorgeous smile.

Why Choose Dr. Shah as your Oral Surgeon for All-On-4 Dental Implants?

Not all dentists place dental implants, and those that place implants do so only occasionally. While they may be capable, they do not have the extensive additional education and training that an oral and maxillofacial surgeon receives. Dr. Shah and his dental surgical assistants routinely perform All-On-4 implant surgery, ensuring superior results because they are highly trained, experienced, and knowledgeable in handling complex cases or emergencies.

Dr. Shah collaborates closely with each patient’s general dentist, prosthodontist, and other professionals as needed to preserve your health while meeting and surpassing your dental restoration goals. Dr. Shah and his care team are fully versed and certified in using all forms of dental anesthesia to provide safe, comfortable sedation to patients with dental anxiety.

All-On-4 Frequently Asked Questions

How are All-On-4 Dental Implants Better Than Dentures?

While dentures may look similar to implant-supported replacement teeth, there are significant differences in how they function and feel.

The upper or lower arch of replacement teeth supported by dental implants is securely attached to titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone. This creates a stable foundation for the replacement teeth, allowing them to function like natural teeth. You can eat your favorite foods without worry and speak with confidence.

In contrast, dentures sit on top of the gums and rely on suction or adhesives to stay in place. They constantly slip and move around when speaking or eating; which can be uncomfortable, embarrassing and affect your quality of life.

Am I a Candidate for All-On-4 Dental Implants?

If you are in good overall health without any dental disease, you may be a candidate for All-On-4 implants. However, it’s important to note that certain medical conditions, such as bleeding disorders, autoimmune disorders, osteoporosis, uncontrolled diabetes or cancer, can delay healing and make someone ineligible for this treatment.

With All-On-4 implants, the upper or lower arch of replacement teeth is permanently attached to titanium implants in the jawbone. This creates a natural look and feel that is impossible with traditional dentures. Say goodbye to discomfort and hello to a confident smile with All-On-4 implants.

What is the Recovery Time After Implant Placement?

Typically, patients can expect some discomfort and swelling for a few days after surgery. However, most people can return to work or normal activities within 3 to 5 days. It’s important to follow our post-operative instructions carefully, including taking any prescribed medications and avoiding certain foods or activities that could disrupt the healing process.

Overall, All-on-4 dental implants offer a faster recovery time than traditional implant procedures because they require fewer implants and less invasive surgery. With proper care and maintenance, these implants can provide long-lasting results that improve your smile’s aesthetics and your ability to chew foods that were not able to eat.

How Much Do All-On-4 Implants Cost?

Dental implants are a popular and effective solution for those who have lost teeth due to injury, decay, or other reasons. However, the cost of dental implants can vary depending on several factors. It is important to understand these factors before deciding whether dental implants are the right choice for you.

The cost of dental implants can be influenced by factors such as the number of teeth being replaced, the type of implant used, the type of restorations, and whether bone grafts are needed.

It is important to note that while dental implants may seem expensive upfront, they can provide long-term benefits such as improved oral health and quality of life. You also avoid the ongoing cost of caring for dentures, including relining, repairs, and replacement.

Are All-On-4 Dental Implants Safe?

As with any surgical procedure, there is a small risk of complications or infections. However, the risk is extremely low. The success rate of All-On-4 dental implants is 97%. Most patients heal well without complications and are thrilled with their results.
